OPX OOC History

Outpost Phoenix was commissioned on 09 October, 2000 as a United Space Federation Sim. It had originally begun before that as Outpost Cousteau, however on 1 October 2000, Outpost Cousteau and several other sims withdrew from the USF to form the Starfleet Legacy Alliance.

Outpost Phoenix was first commanded by Fleet Captain Quint Kivo with Commander Hobbes as his First Officer. The new Outpost was set up on Myce IV, a Class-M world which, unbeknownst to the Outpost crew, had a civilization already inhabiting it. Fleet Captain Kivo remained in Command until 20 May 2001. The first few years were difficult, as often there would be only six to eight players simming, with at least half being Host Alt Characters.

Hobbes was promoted to Captain and assigned Command of Outpost Phoenix. Hobbes requested Lieutenant Commander Nakaruru Sakaki-Dire be made his First Officer, and his request was approved, with her promotion to Commander coming shortly thereafter.

Hobbes retired on 18 November 2002, and was replaced by Captain Nakaruru Sakaki-Dire. Events during this period are not well-chronicled, but, according to Daniel Mancuso in an archived issue of the USF PADD:

'… the sim just died… the interest was never there and the crew left the sim. There was no direction and it just drifted out of consciousness… '

Daniel Mancuso requested that the USF High Command allow him Command of Outpost Phoenix in 2003 and he was given it. He was assisted by former OPX crewmember Commander Alex Montoya-Mancuso. Their first act was to destroy Myce IV and move the location of the Outpost to Bersallis III. According to Captain Mancuso, times were lean, and, for the first few months, there would be only five people simming. Eventually the crew became more robust, and Captain Mancuso left OPX in late 2008.

Captain Mancuso was succeeded by his sim-wife, Alex Montoya-Mancuso. She remained Commanding Officer until early 2011, and then was followed by Captain Anika Bonali.

Captain Bonali disappeared from Outpost Phoenix in Late 2015 . At the time of her disappearance, the crew consisted of two people, including Lieutenant Commander Noah Masterson.

Hobbes returned to visit the sim in April 2016. Seeing the disarray it was in, he petitioned the High Command to reinstate him as Commanding Officer. His request was approved, and he rejoined the sim as Captain Kaveh Arzie.

On 16 October 2016, USS Lexington was rolled into Outpost Phoenix following the retirement of Commodore Jonas Brent, and its time was changed to 2200 EST. Outpost Phoenix was also moved from Bersallis III to Tahnna'Whanna IV.

With a sudden surge of energy, Outpost Phoenix was reinvigorated. Arzie was promoted from Captain to Fleet Captain in December 2017, and to Commodore a year later. Lieutenant Commander Masterson was officially made Commander by fiat of Admiral Ahrele Johannson. Following the dissolution of the USF High Command, he was promoted to Captain following Arzie's promotion to Commodore.

On 19 November 2019, the Outpost Phoenix crew unanimously agreed to resign from the United Space Federation and take the Outpost with them following the disreputable behaviour of another Host towards an OPX player in violation of the USF Code of Conduct, coupled with the USF Executive Board's refusal to take action.

Outpost Phoenix is presently an independent sim. She has a strong, dedicated player base and sims nearly every Sunday at 1500 EST.
